About

Dr. Emma Farrell

Scientific Rigor with Spiritual Groundedness

Dr. Farrell’s professional experience includes over 15 years of college teaching, including at the University of Missouri – St. Louis, University of South Florida, University of Missouri – Columbia, Arizona State University, and Dominican University. Dr. Farrell worked in private industry as a Senior Research Chemist and has published in several fields, including enzymology, metabolomics, and higher education.

More important than what we do, though, is how we do it. Dr. Farrell sees the work they do through a highly relational lens and has trained in spiritual care at Loyola University Medical Center and Meadville Lombard Theological School, where they still study social justice issues and the historical contexts of world religions. Our wellbeings are intricately interconnected, and together we are greater than the sum of our parts.

In 2021, Dr. Farrell began the long process of becoming ordained as a Unitarian Universalist minister and currently serves as the ministerial intern at the Unitarian Church of Evanston. Their debut sermon below talks about the transition from science to ministry.

Dr. Farrell puts the dignity of each spirit first and is open to and supportive of all faiths or no faith, and is LGBTQIA+ supportive.
